Workplace health and safety practices are important because they help prevent inter-office violence and raise employee awareness of the potential dangers they face. Violent acts and behaviors of employees and other individuals within the workplace are cause for concern because they threaten a company’s overall well-being. According to the National Safety Management Society, safety management means that a company evaluates safety concerns and comes up with ways to minimize exposure to health and safety threats in the workplace. Safety management functions to keep employees and employers safe. It is an integral part of business, because employers who do not take proper precautionary measures to ensure safety are risking accidents and injuries at work which can result in large fines and financial burdens.

Safety Protocols

Employers may adopt safety protocols to institute in their places of work, to increase employee safety practices. Posting signs and symbols for safety risks is another way that employers can warn employees of a potentially hazardous situation. Holding safety trainings at work is a good way to make sure employees are properly trained and educated about their company's safety policies and standards.


Practicing safety in the workplace is beneficial because it keeps staff safe, allows projects to be finished on time, keeps costs low and even enhances productivity. By ensuring a safe work environment, employers won't have to deal with all of the costs that are affiliated with accidents and injuries, such as worker's comp claims, legal fees, insurance costs and the general loss of productivity that occurs when employees need to take time off work due to on-the-job injuries.

By complying with the standards of OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, you can help to protect your employees from exposure to illness and injury in the workplace. In addition, OSHA violations can literally ruin a business financially, since the fines can be quite large, especially if more than 1 citation is issued.
